Entering high school, Joe has an interest in biology and loves soccer.  In 9th grade he tests this interest and plays soccer for his school. In 10th grade Joe focuses on anatomy for the Quiz Bowl team while taking an Anatomy course through a MOOC for free.  During Joe's sophomore / junior summer he "puts away his soccer shoes" and does research as well as a 1-week medical mission.  He is able to take AP Bio junior year and also takes AP Calculus BC to be well set for engineering applications. Joe is elected as captain of the varsity soccer team as a junior! Familiar with science fairs, he takes his summer research and enters the regional or state science fair competition that junior year that leads to ISEF competition senior year. For fun, Joe adds EMT training at night his junior/senior summer.
